The Look: James Pecis for Oribe Hair Care
“All the girls here, there’s a bit of a 50s vibe to it. We’re pulling the hair back, in not really a coif type thing. There’s a little bit of a hint that way, but going towards a victory roll. We don’t want it to be too little and still have an easiness to it, so just three pieces are being rolled back and then we are building up really pretty texture in the back. It is supposed to feel like it’s a bit done, but the collection is highly inspired by the desert. Joshua Tree in particular. You kind of want that deserty hair. Which the only difference between that and beachy hair would probably be that it’s a little more dusty and starchy; where the beachy hair might feel like there’s a little more moisture to it and clumps together a bit more.”
How-to:
Prep hair with Maximista Thickening Spray throughout, and blow dry smooth while creating
volume on top.
Wave the hair in alternating directions using a 1 1⁄4 inch wand.
Divide hair into three front sections—the top section (temple to temple, ending at the top of the crown) and two side sections that go from the top of the crown and behind the top of each ear.
Sprinkle Swept Up Volume Powder Spray [available Spring 2017] into the roots of each section, rather than backcombing, to give hair texture.
Spray Gold Lust Dry Shampoo at the roots of the three sections to catch baby hairs if needed.
Starting with the top section, direct hair straight up and secure with an elastic a couple inches from the root. Then, twist the hair and push it forward to create a bubble (i.e. a version of a victory roll), securing with two bobby pins through the elastic. [Note: Swept Up Volume Powder Spray also helps hold the
pins in place.]
Repeat on each of the side sections, ensuring that each section appears separate.
