Give back one shoe at a time through Dunk Your Kicks. On June 15th The Survival Race goes to Six Flags in New Jersey partnering with The Max Cure Foundation to collect old (or muddy, if your participating in the race) sneakers. The initiative is the foundation of their Dunk Your Kicks program, in which one donates used sneakers at any of The Max Cure bins set-up at the race. With every pair collected, the foundation in turn donates money to local families whose child is battling cancer, and are in need of financial aid.
“More than 200 million sneakers in the United States are thrown out every year,” said David Plotkin, founder of The Max Cure Foundation. “We take these used sneakers and recycle them to sell as affordable footwear in developing nations.”
We at StyleCartel are always looking to tell you about the several different ways we can give back to our community and with Dunk Your Kicks, it’s helping the environment through recycling as well as bringing awareness to pediatric cancer. Pediatric cancer is the number one leading cause of disease-related death amongst children and though not everyone is the Jersey area or participating in the race, we’ll keep you informed on when they are in a city near you.
