Rarely do I correlate high end with vegan, let alone environmentally friendly. I mean, when I think of high end, I think of New Zealand leather bombers, hogget wool sweaters and black diamonds the size of knuckles – ostentatious, inexplicably expensive, and purchased as a conversation piece. That’s why when you hear of high-end and sustainable in the same sentence you think of GOOP and overpriced burlap sacks. But Davines happens to be both.
Let’s be honest, the latest trend revolves around reducing your carbon footprint and everybody and their mother has been hopping on this money train. While brands like Davines have been environmentally conscious before it was cool. Founded by the Bollati Family in Parma, Italy in 1983, they were providing producing products for famous international cosmetic companies, before creating their own brand.
By utilizing fundamental values such as freedom of creation, ethics, beauty, and ideologies that make us innately human, they concocted a collection of items that didn’t only make us feel socially responsible as consumers, but gave oomph to our hair. And at the end of the day, I respect a brand that at 30 years old can still create something that’s true to itself and hip to the ever changing beat of life. Not to mention how it makes your hair look and feel. My tresses have been praising the hair gods several times this month for brands that are getting the shine and recognition deserved.
One of my favorite items that women of very coarse hair and au natural hair need to add to their must haves, This Is An Oil Non-Oil. I’ve only used it with my hair dry, but it took my hair to a state of manageability and easy styling, without making it damp. It has a thick water like texture, serum spreadibilty, a sweet smell I can’t place, without that excess grease most “oils”. And that’s the best part about Davines, you can find something for everyone!
