DÉFILÉ DU JOUR – NYFW DAY 6

I knew today I would be talking all GEORGINE everything for Défilé du Jour. Every season she surprises me with looks that could literally kill. And from what I saw today, I would probably fight someone in a sample sale for a piece that was two sizes to small. They are versatile, beautiful, sensual, feminine, and classic, in one. For Spring/Summer 2015, she made beachwear not only beach exclusive. A collection of metallics, creams, and rich golds drenched upon beaded chiffon, leather, lace and organza exudes a sense of luxury during a climatic part of history where change was inevitable, even in fashion.

Toss on any bottom, whether it be a pleated maxi or pixie pants, and rock them with your favorite heels for an ensemble ideal for an evening out. Before her show, we spoke with designer Georgine Ratelband on what to expect.

What can we expect from this collection that wasn’t in the last?
You’re going to see a lot more skin. You’re going to see a lot of gold, more accessorized looks. My clients always tell me they want to be surprised. They want to look beautiful, but they love that you can get two pieces from one.

Inspiration?
I started looking at photographs from certain eras and the pictures I was most drawn to were of woman that were mostly naked. They were wearing only bathing suits, or there was this photo of Marisa Berenson where she has a turban on her head. Then there was a trip that I took to Koh Samui in Thailand, and there I spent the whole time in my bathing suit. I didn’t want to take it off even when we went out for dinner, so I would just put on a hi-waisted pair of pants or caftan over it. Then I starting thinking about 1970s jet set people like Bianca Jagger and what they would wear when they went out to clubs in St. Tropez. They made their swimwear into actual clothes.

How will you celebrate after you show?
First we’re going to go home and organize everything. Then we have a super nice after-party at our friends’ restaurant, Fig and Olive.
