The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) presents the first US edition of cult magazine ICONOfly, diary of an accessory, created by French art director and curator Olivia Bransbourg. Now in its seventh issue, its eyes have focused in on the world’s most iconic fashion statement of the moment – the sneaker.
In this special edition of ICONOfly, artists, writers, historians, and designers will create original works demonstrating how sneakers impact the journeys we take throughout New York on a physical, intellectual, and emotional level. There are features from Tom Sachs, Tatiana Trouvé, Pierre Hardy, Crossing the Line 2015 artists Gustavo Ciriaco, Andrea Sonnberger, Elana Langer, and Shezad Dawood.
ICONOfly will be apart of this years contemporary art festival, Crossing the Line and launched alongside a new perfume, ATTACHE-MOI/IT WAS A TIME THAT WAS A TIME, created by British artist Shezad Dawood. The perfume was collaboration with Bransbourg and French perfumer Nicolas Bonneville as part of Dawood’s US debut exhibition at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
The magazine is free and will be available in select locations, whilst the scent is not available to purchase until September 22nd. In the mean time, FIAF and its supported partners/affiliates will be hosting events where you can explore other works, and some of the aforementioned, first hand. What would you do if you were among the last people on earth? British multimedia artist Shezad Dawood and the Red Hook community together imagine life after a monumental disaster.
The result is It was a time that was a time, an experimental post-apocalyptic film at the center of Dawood’s first major US solo exhibition. Shot on the beaches of Far Rockaway, Coney Island, and Staten Island, this film investigates the lasting effects of Hurricane Sandy and envisions building a new society from the ruins of an environmental catastrophe.
In addition to the commissioned film, Pioneer Works will display work in textile, neon, and video from this MoMA and Tate alum.
