DELPHINE & REED KRAKOFF CURATE SOTHEBY’S EXHIBTION

Sotheby’s New York presents the exhibition Alchemy: Art x Design curated by Delphine and Reed Krakoff. (Yes, the fashion designer Reed Krakoff. Don’t be silly and waste time asking Google foolish questions… ugh!) Using the properties sourced mainly from Sotheby’s Important Design sale, it explores the different ways art and design “can inform each other and the spaces they inhabit.” So Delphine and Reed created environments and arranged pieces in such manners that their color, texture, mood, and material should clash. Like Prewar and Postwar design presented with contemporary and modern art. Actually, think about it like this if art isn’t your thing. Remember in Midnight in Paris when Owen Wilson met Tom Hiddleston (F. Scott Fitzgerald)? Then when he and Marion Cotillard travelled further back to la belle époque? Owen and Marion’s outfits never changed, so they were drastically different next to those who lived during their personal golden age.

Delphine and Reed Krakoff commented, “While the installation will evolve through the process, our projects are always an amalgam of both of our tastes. This evolution is what creates our visual aesthetic. The Important Design sale offers a wide range of works such as the monumental ceramic sculpture by Jouve that occupied a space in the artist’s own garden in the South of France.”

The exhibition will be on view to the public in the 10th-floor galleries at Sotheby’s York Avenue headquarters until Friday, December 18th.

“I am excited to collaborate with Delphine and Reed as they bring a fresh and holistic vision, sparked by their love of the creative process, their design expertise and their sophisticated collector’s eye to our Important Design sale exhibition,” said Jodi Pollack, Head of Sotheby’s 20th Century Design.
