Makeup Inspiration: Rodney Cutler for REDKEN x ULTA BEAUTY ARTISTIC TEAM
“The designers are really cool, just kind of street style, but really upscale street style. So it’s fun and it’s funky, but it’s an upscale, groovy, version of funky.”
How to: “We prep the hair with Fatboy Boss Dog and Redken Guts, blow dry that in, and then we’re taking really cool sections around the top and we’re putting in three twists that really kind of hug the head and create some visual interest that they hug the head, and they give it some cool texture in there. And then we are twisting the back up and using hair ornamentation, with bobby pins in the back, to create a little bit of flare back there just to give it that really kind of cool edge. So it really complements the clothing. Very upscale, really hot look.
The specifics to the hair design: “Start with three sections on the top. Everything that we do here is purposeful even when it looks not on purpose. So we take three sections, start with one in the middle a little off-center, and we create a sort of C-shaped parting across the head. And you wrap and roll that. And then on one side, it wraps around and hugs that C shape. On the other side, it hugs the other interior side of that C shape. So it comes up and around on the one side. So it looks really cool. It creates movement with the eye. It’s a really fresh, cool, fun, way to look at a really simplistic but purposeful style.
Bobby pins in the back: The bobby pins in the back really create some visual interest going on back there. So it’s really using bobby pins in a new way. They’re not necessarily holding the hair up by any means, but they’re adding flare, they’re adding style, they’re adding trend to it. Their ornamentation is a big deal right now. There’s a lot going on with it, and using bobby pins in a creative way in general is a really great way to do it. For Ulta Beauty’s Spring/Summer trend that we just did unrelated to this, we talked a lot about using bobby pins and hair ornamentation. It’s a really hot thing we’re going to see throughout the Spring and the Summer.
Nail Look: Lisa Logan for RED CARPET MANICURE
They are using a beautiful new color. The reason why we chose that we are doing nails here at the table, is because we just chose the color. We were going back and forth with some colors, but the decision wasn’t made until 20 minutes ago. Now I have my team doing the color right here to get the pre-color out there, because the models tend to go to the bathroom and everything. Since the tips we are using can turn the top off, so if we get them done now it will be easier. But the only difference is that after we do the nails we are going to cut them and create a really pointed kind of stiletto shape nail. They are going to be beautiful, clean but really pointy. The color is called Natural Talent by Red Carpet Manicure.
