There are two things that come to mind when hearing “Nicolas Ghesquière Leaving Balenciaga.”
1. Why did this happen and
2. Who’s going to dress Kristen Stewart?
Stewart is known for her vampire pale skin, bright, electric eyes and timid, bordering on socially awkward persona. But when she’s not showing us her inner Joan Jett, doing interviews in oversized sweatshirts or removing her heels to replace them with chucks, she’s making marks on the red carpet in nothing other than Balenciaga. And as the face of Balenciaga’s fragrance, Florabotanica, what other designer would seemingly be able to understand Stewart’s true style if not Nicolas?
Wait, let me rewind as I’m sure you’re still stuck on the news of Nicolas Ghesquière leaving Balenciaga. That’s right… after 15 years as Creative Director of Balenciaga, PPR announced to end their business relationship as of November 30, 2012. No specific details of what caused the joint decision to split have been released but according to Cathy Horyn, this wasn’t just an overnight thought. His build up frustrations go back over a year citing matters of finance and the commercialization of Balenciaga; and that “his concerns were being insufficiently addressed by the PPR chairman, François-Henri Pinault.” She further goes on to say, “Meanwhile, Mr. Ghesquière could wind up doing something with LVMH (there is already talk about that), or just take a little break.”
What?! LVMH could be involved now? Whatever does happen is still very unclear, but all I know is unless Ghesquière, Pinault or a representative of PPR comes out to explain the true reason, the world, except a select few, will never know.
