GEORGINE by Georgine Ratelband’s overall mission in design is to create “beautiful, chic clothing that that every woman will feel great about wearing”. Her spring/summer 2013 collection was designed to mix “intricate and simplistic” while meshing classic and modern style. With pieces reminiscent from every decade within the last century, it’s a smorgasbord of everything I love about women’s clothing – delicately placed silhouettes, vibrant colors, sexy detailing, and simple masculine touches.
Key Pieces – Cigarette Pants, waist tied tops, cummerbund waists, high collared dresses, high-waisted shorts, lace overlays, bowties collars, suit jackets
Key Colors – Sea foam green, white, crisp apple red, black, polka-dot, salmon
Accessories – Thick width belts, cummerbunds, clutches, hat box handbags, key hole gloves, bowtie
Swag – Besides the color and raw silk filling so many of the pieces, the over flooding of masculine ideas beautifully executed through a woman’s eye. I’m not sure if this is close Georgine’s intentional interpretation, but it seemed that this collection utilized ideas of women based period pieces – most likely to be seen on Twiggy, Monroe or Hepburn in the past and Janelle Monáe, Carey Mulligan or Emma Stone today.
