I don’t really speak much on seasonal ad campaigns because they all follow similar guidelines – esteemed celebs, shocking story following cues of social issues, bringing back an oldie but goodie, pop-up shop in a new hotspot, photographing the collection at a new travel hotspot done by a famed Instagram star, etc.
And it’s so wonderful that brands want to grab our attention every season, but imagine when they all come at you at once. It’s like when you’re on the subway sitting down during rush hour and there are people’s privates right at eye level, coming at you, all at once. You just want to laugh manically or run off the train screaming, “NO MORE…. Please!”
But there are some campaigns that come across my inbox that make me smile and prod my curiosity to see what they have in store for the season.
Bally for their Autumn/Winter campaign [Fall/Winter for those who are scratching their heads questioning, “What’s Autumn?”] enlisted photographer Jack Davison to be the man behind the lens capturing an interpretation of “eccentric youth”. The shoot recruited eight models from varying generations including Guinevere Van Seenus (38), Nicole Atieno (18), and Maribo Jensen (15) to recreate the vibe of an artist’s studio and the unconventional lifestyle of the 70s.
In addition to Davison, the Bally campaign was styled by Jonathan Kay and art directed by Franck Durand. The campaign was first showcased in the Autumn/Winter issue of LOVE currently on sale, and will spread to other globally recognized publications come September.
