Blow, the New York blow dry bar expands to select Nordstrom and Macy’s department store. This may not seem like much to some people, but it basically translates to the gods of the blowout world are no longer just a Big Apple luxury. Starting November, these Blow Express arenas will providing the same top service, beautiful execution, and one of a kind finish to a larger American market, sans a wash.
That’s right. There will be no 10 minute scalp massage as your hair is cleansed of its product oversaturation. But don’t fret. It doesn’t mean the Blow experts won’t be having you leave, looking like a star. I would know. My tresses were done by Global Educator, Celebrity Stylist and Blow God, Mr. Gregory Patterson.
At first, when I saw he was white, and being a black woman with coarse textured hair, I was very hesitant. Hesitant that he wouldn’t know what to do, would freak out at the sight of my natural and relaxed hair mix, and that I would leave hanging my head in shame. But from the moment he asked whether I had natural or relaxed hair, and that doing hair isn’t about race, it’s about knowing how to handle all textures of hair, I knew it was a match made in hair heaven. I mean just because Charlotte’s wavy locks are more malleable than my tight coils, doesn’t mean I should be forced to wear warning label when walking into a salon. As he smoothed by new growth with Weather Girl, he explained that when my hair is wet I need a pre-blowdry protectant (You Only Smoother) as well as post (Weather Girl), before using an iron to style as desired. Which is something I’ve always taken for granted. I’ve always thought that since my hair was detangled and soft after conditioning, there was no need to add anything else.
From there, Gregory flat ironed by hair with two Sedu Revolution irons. My hair is shorter in the back and longer in the front, so he opted for the mini Revolution and regular sized Revolution – brands he swears by for ultimate results. Afterwards he spritzed in some shine with Time To Shine, before holding it together with Blow Out Spray. Gracious! I was strutting around the city, showing off my new do everyone.
