Let me preface, I’ve never had a Keratin treatment as I previously lived in the world of the no-lye relaxers. Since, June 2013, I’ve been au natural and loving it. Except the fact that my silky straight tresses had now become kinky curls, making it much harder to flat iron. And though I’ve been to many salons in the city, some recently, that I’ve been told, “I’ve never done your type of hair before,” it never really seemed like an option for me. So some weeks back, I was hesitant when I agreed to the Cezanne Perfect Finish Keratin Smoothing Treatment at Butterfly Studio in New York.
To clarify, it’s NOT a relaxer. Unlike many “keratin” treatments on the market, Cezanne is not only 100% Formaldehyde-free, it acts as just a smoothing agent. Basically, it doesn’t redefine your natural curl pattern, it smooths it. It can be used on any hair texture – colored, damaged, bleached or relaxed. My hair is natural with relaxed ends as I refused the big chop, and both areas took in the process with no breakage.
But, the biggest take away is that you can wash your hair IMMEDIATELY after. So sweat it out at the gym. Enjoy a few laps at the pool. Or sing in the rain without an umbrella. No matter what, the Cezanne treatment will be locked in, ready for daily styling. Just remember to use sulfate free products, or recommended the Cezanne collection, to maintain the look.

How did I fare? I loved it. I hope to get smoothing treatments more often, as I didn’t need to flat iron my hair every day. It was soft to the touch, shiny, and used less product, so it never felt heavy, or weighed down. My stylist was Myesha and though I can only speak for the results from Butterfly Studio and its staff, I would encourage other women who would like to try the treatment to their research. Not every place in New York City or even in the outskirts offer well-versed stylists as Butterfly Studio does.
