This summer we started a series entitled “Summer Styles” featuring summer favorites that really didn’t fit into a particular category, but were unique enough to feature on its own. This time around, we’re continuing this love of all things awesome, and will be doing “Fall Features”. A series incorporating the same theme, but for fall. And who’s the lucky winner to start us off,Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream.
I love ice cream. I have to be in the mood to eat it, but when I am, I want it to be so satiable that it makes me crave for more – like any finely tuned recipe or creation should make you feel. Jeni’s makes you feel an array of ways, but in a rich, decadent manner. From studying art at Ohio State (Go Buckeyes) to blending her own perfumes, Jeni has always had the palette of concocting the extraordinary with the ordinary. Like their Sweet Corn and Black Raspberries, or their Salty Caramel. It’s a vacation in your mouth.
Truly, imagine combining your favorite flavors. Not snack flavors of BBQ Chips and Popcorn, but wholesome cooked flavors that you enjoy seasonally. Growing up, I loved corn, specifically sweet corn. My family roasted corn weekly, and I always had them make a separate batch of boiled corn that I could eat throughout the week. I lived for how the surrounding kernels would burst as you took every bite. How the juices spurted out and dribbled down your hand, and how the flavors that came along with it was what real sweetness tasted like. No added preservatives. Just all natural, from the Earth sweetness. That’s what Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream is for me. It’s a constant reminder of everything special about food. It’s nostalgic. It’s made with love. But most importantly, it’s humble.
