In an industry where fit can either make or break the outfit and in a world where everything from shopping to dating has transferred to online, it’s hard to grasp the idea of how these two worlds could mesh seamlessly. But it has. Keaton Row, an online personal styling start-up, has taken the New York personal styling scene by the reigns and somehow, not surprisingly though, are succeeding. Recently, I met with the Keaton Row Style Editor, Katie Freedman, and talked to her about what she loves about KR, how she got started in this business we call fashion, and her most embarrassing moments.
What did you do before Keaton Row?
Personal Shopping and Freelance Design. My last job was with J.Crew, working in their Wedding Division as a Bridal Stylist.
What do you love about Keaton Row?
Keaton Row takes the luxurious perception of a Personal Stylist and makes it accessible and affordable. Our concept is creative, innovative and will revolutionize the way women shop. I am thrilled to be a part of a community where women can feel confident and inspired by their everyday wardrobe.
What’s your biggest take away when you style people?
When I see appreciation through Style. Sharing my love of fashion and style is something I take very seriously. The most rewarding take away is when my clients send me pictures of outfits they put together on their own. Not only have I done my job but it shows me that I have helped boost their confidence by bringing out their inner fashionista.
If you weren’t in fashion what would you be doing?
Probably writing…but most likely about fashion (I write the content for our KR Blog and have always been interested in fashion journalism). But excluding fashion…Lately I have become more and more inspired with interior design-so possibly something in that industry? I could never be in a profession that was not creatively challenging.

What items can you not live without?
It is pretty cliche but my iPhone …and some of my vintage costume jewelry. Without both these items I feel naked.

You’re most embarrassing moment?
I can only choose one? Wiping out in public never gets old, some may say I’m pigeon toed.
What was your fashion faux-pas you wish you could erase from your history?
There was a semester in college where my girlfriends and I thought wearing ratty sport themed vintage t-shirts with lots of necklaces was cool. I know it doesn’t sound that bad but trust me, it was. If I had to choose another-when I wore cotton miniskirts and disguised them as tube tops. Yep that happened.
What’s the biggest fashion faux-pas women in New York do that irks you?
This faux-pas irks me every time……When working women in suits or business formal attire wear sneakers while on the subway or walking to work. I get that heels are not easy to commute in ladies but Nikes and pencil skirts do not mix!! Invest in a chic/comfortable pair of flats.
