On September 1st, Nespresso launched two Limited Edition Grands Crus.::espresso aficionados gasp:: Yeah, which basically means you all have barely any time left to stock up on before it no longer being manufactured…ugh, let me finish! Soooo, like I was saying. The Limited Edition Grands Crus – Tribute to Milano and Tribute to Palermo – pay homage to the variety and depth of the well know Italian coffee culture by the contrast of differing cities.
We had the chance to try it out before the actual launch, and though I’m more familiar with Milano (I was an Au Pair there while in college), the description of the city and the taste of Palermo were more up my alley. It was powerful and robust with scents of pepper, with a smooth, “silky” texture; something that, if I were an avid espresso drinker, I would want in the morning. While Milano, was fruitier, more beautiful in comparison…. Sort of like the architecture seen as you roam the many strada of the city.
“Tribute to Milano is our interpretation of the hustle and bustle of the elegant and vibrant city of Milan, where coffee is enjoyed at a fast pace while standing at the bar. In contrast, Tribute to Palermo is a powerful, intense and full bodied coffee. We were inspired by the scents of the Sicilian outdoor markets, alive with colorful spices, so the cacao aromas and spicy peppery notes evoke an experience among the locals at the market,” said Karsten Ranitzsch, Head of Coffee at Nespresso
In 2013 Nespresso released limited edition ristrettos representing the cities of Naples and Trieste, now this Fall 2015 with Palermo and Milano. Only time will tell where or what they do next, but enjoy these flavors while you can.
