RACHEL ROY S/S 2013 RUNWAY REPORT

Rachel-Roy-1

Rachel Roy Spring/Summer 2013 Presentation was held within a fantastic showroom space were the designers’ collection inspired by “a dreamland where the unexpected collide” came to fruition.  Rachel delivered clothes for her typical customers – a modern ladylike aesthetic – but added a few twists by infusing the collection with bold neon hues (acid green, oranges, yellow, and purple) and eye-catching prints (a crowd favorite was the abstract skull-and-bird). Rachel knows how to create a lifestyle for her woman from a blouse-and-shorts combo for an afternoon in Central Park and a bright pink pant suit for work to a cocktail dress for drinks at Boom Boom Room and an evening gown for the MET Gala!

Themes – Wearability is always the theme! She exhibited her usual modern sophisticated woman but took risks this season. Not with silhouettes but rather with color and mixed prints.

Colors – Bold pink, ivory, navy, burgundy, Monaco Blue, chamoisee, russet, and sherbets.

Key Items – Silk suits in bright hues and prints; henley shirt-style dresses with accordion pleats; asymmetrical peplum cocktail dress; figure-flattering dresses; leg-lengthening bottoms

Prints/Patterns – Abstract skull-and-bird pattern (this surely will hit our closets).

Fabrics – Lace, cotton, silk, satin, tweed

Accessories – Strong statement chain necklaces paired with feminine dresses, piles of ID and friendship bracelets, and crystal and pyramid embellished heels paired with the silky tailored clothing gave a juxtaposition between ladylike femme and a tailored edge. Rachel says “Those shoes were my favorite, and I am wearing them straight away!”

Swag – Rachel Roy creates clothes for really any lifestyle or personality. The woman is modern who adores simple wearable clothes that can be paired with some jeans, a crisp white tee or even a comfy sweater. Overall Roy’s clothes are versatile and if you’re on the hunt for lengthen silhouettes featuring modern design but aren’t afraid of a whimsical prints or bold color…. head to Rachel Roy’s section for Spring/Summer 2013 – she’ll hook you up!
